Storm damage emergency building permits fast tracked; Fees waived

Sarasota, FL:  The Building Division will accept applications for emergency building permits and electrical permits for storm related damage effective today at 1 p.m. All emergency permits will be fast tracked and standard fees waived.

Regular building inspections on current active permits will be suspended until tomorrow, Thursday, September 14, while staff prioritizes storm recovery permits.

Emergency permits will be issued for:

  • Remasting on buildings ($75 fee – waived)
  • Electric meter cans (($75 fee – waived)
  • Sewer lines on private property ($75 fee – waived)
  • Roof ($100 fee – waived)

There are two ways to submit an application for an emergency building permit:

  • Fax: 941-954-4178
  • In person: 1565 First Street (Annex Building)

To qualify as an emergency, the application must state that the work is related to Hurricane Irma storm damage.

“We ask for your patience,” said Larry Murphy, Building Official. “We will make every effort to cover all inspections that are called in, but expect some delays while we fast track and assist those impacted by Hurricane Irma.”
