Sarasota, FL:  i-Ride Sarasota is here! Media representatives are invited to experience Sarasota’s new free downtown shuttle service, i-Ride Sarasota operated by Gotcha Ride, during a special preview on Tuesday, March 28 at 2 p.m. at City Hall, 1565 First Street.

Media: Please meet on First Street in front of the City Hall steps.

i-Ride Sarasota electric vehicles will be available for the media to enjoy a ride around downtown Sarasota and learn about this new service.

“This is the official unveiling of i-Ride Sarasota, along with the accompanying logo,” said Parking General Mark Lyons. “In a simple manner, both the name and logo convey the purpose of this pilot program: to connect people with places. We’re excited to offer the media a sneak peek and the opportunity to experience a ride prior to the public launch of the service the following day on March 29.”

The following individuals will be on site and will talk about i-Ride Sarasota:

  • Mayor Willie Shaw
  • Tom Barwin – City Manager
  • Mark Lyons – Parking General Manager
  • Sean Flood – CEO, Gotcha Ride LLC

Starting the following day, Wednesday, March 29, i-Ride Sarasota will be available to the public.

A free ride with i-Ride Sarasota can be secured three ways:

  • Free mobile app – Gotcha Ride
  • Telephone: 941-444-2585
  • Hail a vehicle on the street

Hours of operation will be 11 a.m. – 11 p.m. daily.

The service area will include the downtown area and Rosemary District with boundaries being: 14th Street to the north; Mound Street to the south; School Avenue to the east; and, the Bayfront to the west.

“We are excited to bring our transportation solutions to a beautiful city like Sarasota,” said Gotcha Media Holdings CEO Sean Flood, a Tampa native. “Our experience in other densely-populated communities with parking and transportation challenges is a perfect fit. We look forward to making a positive impact on residents, businesses and visitors.”

Gotcha (Green Operated Transit Carrying Humanity Around) focuses on sustainability and will operate seven low speed electric vehicles to shuttle people, and reduce the number of cars on the roads.

In February, the City Commission unanimously approved funding for a 2-year pilot program with Gotcha. The goal is for the program to pay for itself through advertising displayed on the vehicles.

The first local i-Ride Sarasota sponsor is CitySide, a new 228-unit apartment community in the Rosemary District. Advertisements for the new apartment community will be wrapped on the exterior of the i-Ride Sarasota vehicles.

“We could not pass up the opportunity to support an eco-friendly initiative that will help alleviate traffic in the city we call home,” said Bruce Weiner, CitySide developer/owner. “Our residents are very excited about the i-Ride Sarasota service”.
