Sarasota, FL: A new website providing information about a significant upcoming project in the Alta Vista and Arlington Park neighborhoods is now available. The website can be found at: www.US41WaterMainSRQ.com
Currently, to replace failing water mains traffic lanes must be temporarily closed, often causing traffic disruptions. City staff also must receive Florida Department of Transportation approval for some of the replacement work along U.S. 41, since it is a state road.
Most of the new water mains will be located along less travelled City-owned streets parallel to U.S. 41, improving the reliability of the City’s water delivery system while enhancing access to those pipes when necessary.
The construction work will be split into seven phases, which currently are being determined. By working in phases, the impact on the surrounding neighborhoods will be minimized while maintaining an aggressive construction schedule.
Construction is expected to begin in May. Residents are encouraged to check the new website for regular updates and answers to frequently asked questions.
“The City has a continuing program of replacing old and failing infrastructure and these pipe lines are in need of an upgrade,” said Bill Swick, City of Sarasota Project Manager. “We understand there will be a level of inconvenience and we’ll do our best to minimize the impact. We’re reaching out to residents now so the community is aware of this pending project.”
To minimize motorists’ inconvenience, the City is taking extra measures to confine the construction activities to localized areas, to phase construction, and use the least disruptive construction techniques as much as possible.
The dedicated website, www.US41WaterMainSRQ.com provides an overview of the proposed project, construction schedule and frequently asked questions. A link to the website is posted on the City of Sarasota website www.SarasotaGov.com and can be found by clicking the construction hard hat on the homepage.
