THANKSGIVING DAY ‘TURKEY SHOOT’ AT BOBBY JONES GOLF CLUB

Sarasota, FL:   Bobby Jones Golf Club is going to the birds Thanksgiving Day, Thursday, November 26.  Join the fun Thanksgiving morning when Bobby Jones Golf Club hosts the 7th Annual ‘Turkey Shoot’ with an 8:45 a.m. shotgun start and reduced greens fees.  Participants also will receive a discounted breakfast special.

“No turkeys will be harmed and there will be no fowl language on the course,” jokedTurkey Shoot Bobby Jones Golf Club Manager Sue Martin. “Don’t be a turkey!  Come join the fun.  And, get there early to gobble, gobble up that hot breakfast.”

Greens fees for 18 holes with a golf cart will be just $22.50. Nine holes also will be offered at regular price, $18.00 with a cart, until 11 a.m.

Starting at 7 a.m., the hot breakfast special will be available for $9.00. Golfers with a ‘Turkey Shoot’ receipt will receive a $3.00 discount.

THANKSGIVING HOURS ANNOUNCED; GARBAGE COLLECTION SCHEDULES CHANGE

Sarasota, FL: Solid waste collection schedules will be modified next week due to the Thanksgiving holiday.  There will be no garbage, recycling, and yard waste pickup on Thanksgiving Day, Thursday, November 26.Thanksgiving_Turkey cropped

The schedule for collection will be as follows:

  • Thursday collection will occur one day later on Friday, November 27
  • Friday collection will be one day later on Saturday, November 28.

City of Sarasota administration offices will be closed Thursday and Friday in observance of Thanksgiving. All offices will reopen on Monday, November 30.

Bobby Jones Golf Club, 1000 Circus Boulevard, will host the 7th Annual ‘Turkey Shoot’ starting at 8:45 a.m.

Lido Pool, 400 Benjamin Franklin Drive, will be open Thanksgiving Day and the day after 10 a.m. – 4:45 p.m.

The Robert L. Taylor Community Complex, 1845 34th Street, will be closed Thanksgiving Day. Regular hours of operation will resume on Friday: 6 a.m. – 9 p.m.

NEW TOURNAMENT FOR SENIOR MEN HOSTED BY BOBBY JONES GOLF CLUB NOV. 21 & 22

Sarasota, FL: An exciting new golf tournament for senior men will be launched this month at the City of Sarasota’s municipal golf course, Bobby Jones Golf Club, 1000 Circus Boulevard.  The inaugural Senior Men’s Better Ball Championship will be held the weekend of November 21-22.

Registration is now open for all males 50 and older and will be limited to the first 100Bobby Jones Logo entries.

The entry fee is $190 per team and includes: two rounds of golf with a riding cart, tee gifts, on-course non-alcoholic beverage each day, and lunch at the conclusion of each player’s second round.

VETERANS DAY PARADE & CEREMONY TO BE HELD NOV. 11

Sarasota, FL: The public is invited to attend the annual Veterans Day parade in downtown Sarasota on Veterans Day, Wednesday, November 11 starting at 10 a.m.   Hosted by the City of Sarasota in conjunction with the Sarasota Patriotic Observance Committee, the parade will begin at Main Street and Osprey Avenue.Parade  At the conclusion of the parade, a ceremony will be held at Chaplain J.D. Hamel Park at Main Street and Gulfstream Avenue at approximately 11 a.m.

The parade and ceremony will continue Sarasota’s longstanding history of honoring military personnel. Units appearing in the parade will include:  veterans service organizations, law enforcement agencies, fire departments, color guards, marching bands, local high school Junior Reserve Officers’ Training Corps units, civic organizations and historical military equipment.

The theme for the 2015 Veterans Day ceremony is “When Duty Calls”.   Retired U.S. Army Col. Stephen D. Cork will be the keynote speaker.  Col. Cork served in staff and command positions in Germany, Vietnam, and throughout the United States.  Following his military retirement, he was employed by Sarasota County as the Public Works Director and General Services Director.  Col. Cork also was a founding member of the Sarasota Military Academy.

The City of Sarasota in conjunction with the Sarasota Patriotic Observance Committee will co-host the annual Veterans Day Parade on Wednesday, November 11, 2015 at 10 a.m. in downtown Sarasota to honor our military veterans.SPD_badge

There will be several road closures and vehicle tow away zones for the parade throughout Wednesday morning:

Wednesday, November 11, 2015 Street Closures:

  • 6 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. Main Street from Lemon Avenue to Gulfstream Avenue
  • 6 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. Gulfstream Avenue from Cocoanut Avenue to McAnsh Square
  • 8 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. Links Avenue from Fruitville Road to Ringling Boulevard
  • 8 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. Osprey Avenue from Fruitville Road to Ringling Boulevard
  • 8 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. Main Street from U.S. 301 to Osprey Avenue
