Opening and Closing Accounts
To open a new account for water/sewer/solid waste service, you must present a photo I.D and your social security number. Service Deposit fees must be paid before water is turned on. These fees represent a deposit, an advance charge for solid waste collection, and a non-refundable service charge. Solid Waste collection is a mandatory service in the City of Sarasota.

The deposit is held without interest and will be refunded to you as a credit against service once a 12-month service period has been completed, and the account has not been past due more than one time during the 12-month period.

To close an account, you may call, or visit the Utility Billing Office in person. After the final meter reading is made, the deposit will be credited to your account if not previously refunded. You will then receive either a bill or a refund check for the difference. This takes approximately 4 to 6 weeks.
You may transfer an existing account to another address within the City as long as the account remains in the same name. Your deposit can be transferred to the new account provided the terminated account is paid in full.
